What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are stain-resistant, wafer-thin coverings made of porcelain or composite resin that Dr. Etemad bonds to the teeth in the front of your mouth. They mask oral imperfections, such as stains that whitening cannot remove, yellowing, small cracks, and damaged tooth enamel.

They can also create a more uniform smile. For example, if you have a couple of small teeth, veneers can make them longer and wider, blending in with the rest of your teeth seamlessly.

Am I a candidate for dental veneers?

What does getting veneers involve?

At Newport Smile Studio, getting dental veneers takes two separate appointments.

First Visit

Dr. Etemad reviews your dental records, completes an oral exam, and takes digital X-rays. If you have healthy teeth and gums and are a candidate for veneers, she numbs your mouth with a local anesthetic and removes a thin layer of enamel from each tooth.

Next, Dr. Etemad takes digital impressions of your teeth with an intraoral scanner. She sends your impressions to a dental lab that manufactures your veneers from porcelain or composite resin. The lab creates veneers that match the color, size, and shape of your natural teeth. This attention to detail provides a seamless, natural-looking smile.

Second Visit

Once the lab finishes your veneers, you return to Newport Smile Studio. Dr. Etemad numbs your mouth and attaches the veneers to the front of your teeth. Then, she checks their color, shape, and fit and has you look at them in the mirror.

After veneer placement, there’s no downtime or recovery period. You can return to your routine immediately and eat and drink as long as the anesthesia has worn off.

Do veneers last a lifetime?

Dental veneers typically last 10-15 years, but you can extend their lifespan by practicing good oral hygiene. Dr. Etemad recommends brushing twice daily, flossing regularly, and visiting Newport Smile Studio every six months for an oral exam and professional teeth cleaning.
